Senior Adults Weekly Activities • Monthly Features • Special Events • Scheduled for Trips • FAQ Ready to continue serving the Lord in the years ahead. The criteria for being a Senior Adult are not age, but lifestyle. When you are ready to get involved in the vital, fun, productive and challenging world of Senior Adults----you are welcome! For some it will be at age 55, for others it will be at retirement, and for others it may be 75 or more. The sooner you join us the better---for us and you. With empty nests, grandchildren, and retirement issues before you, you think and act differently now. You want to be more active, productive, and secure. How can you make every moment count? At this point in your journey, one of the highest priorities is that you are called to serve as examples of Christ-like love for future generations. How can the church help? Within the Christian community there should be a special style and grace associated with the second half of life. Our purpose at Immanuel is to “lead the way and leave a legacy for those following us in the Christian journey.” The race we are running means moving forward in our Christian lives—going somewhere—pressing on—knowing that others are following our lead. Who is a Senior Adult? There is no specific age criteria. We recognize that as adults grow older, there needs to be an outlet for these adults to express themselves. Immanuel’s ministry to these older adults targets men and women who are retired, those who are grandparents, those who have “empty nests,” those who have lost a spouse, etc. We are not trying to label anyone as “senior adult.” We basically start after 55.
Where can I receive information? How can I register for activities? You can check out our website and you can also pick up a copy of Life Wise, a quarterly publication for adults 55 plus. Life Wise can be found in holders throughout the church. You will find sign-up sheets for most activities available in the ABF classes on Sunday morning.
When do Senior Adults meet? Senior adults are involved in virtually every ministry of Immanuel, on any day of the week. You will find the greatest number in Bible study each Sunday morning. On any given Sunday there will be between 350-400 older adults involved in Bible study.
How is care giving accomplished in such a large church? Every person is encouraged to be involved in a Bible study or other small group activity. When needs arise, a person’s small group is the person’s first level of support.
We have a number of staff and volunteers who make daily and weekly visits to the hospitals, nursing homes, and to those who are homebound.
Are Your Facilities “senior-friendly”? Yes! You will find friendly people at our guest information desks on Sunday mornings. These volunteers are there to assist you in any way they can. Elevators are available in the building along with comfortable chairs and sofas. Security and medical personnel are on hand and many handicapped parking spaces are available.
Are there special physical activity programs for older adults? The Activities Center holds numerous programs for adults of all ages. The Fitness Center has state-of-the-art equipment and the staff is always ready to help with any need. The walking track is utilized quite a bit by all ages. Some of our aerobics classes are quite attractive to older adults.
